Nestled in the heart of trendy Soho, Berwick Street Market is the UK’s only surviving fruit and vegetable market. It is a lovely surprise find in the heart of London town. It is tucked away between Oxford Street and Old Compton Street, the centre of London’s media industry and a prime eating and entertainment area.

The market was established in the 1840’s and still retains much of its character. It’s most lively at lunchtimes and offers the freshest and cheapest produce around. The mouth-watering products on sale include fish, bread, cheese, herbs and spices. Along with the many stalls available, the street is also home to some fine delicatessens selling cheese, meats and fish. You will also come across many good second-hand off-beat record shops. Although this is mainly a fresh produce market you will also be able to find a good variety of fabrics and cheaper household goods.

The market is open Monday through to Saturday from 9am – 5pm. It is frequented by a mix of fashion and media types, suits, shady characters and tourists alike – making it a wonderful, vibrant place for an afternoon wander.
